Technical Writer job

Technical Writer
Can you write web content, in-product Help, and craft information solutions (video, social media, communities, etc.) that boost product usability and delight customers? Do you have the DNA of a great writer, agile planner, strong leader, and relentless user advocate? If so, the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Content, Community, and Communications team wants to talk to you! You could be the newest talent to help make Microsoft the global leader in the $12B/year Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software market.

CRM is big, and Microsoft Dynamics CRM is making it bigger – and better. Dynamics CRM is a complete Customer Relationship Management productivity suite built on a flexible platform that deeply integrates with other Microsoft products to transform the way customers manage their businesses. We are making substantial investments in building/integrating mobile, social, and communications technologies and modern user experiences. There’s nothing like this product and this potential to help businesses the way they want to work today.

Every good product needs content to help people use it. That’s where we come in. The Microsoft Dynamics CRM “C3” team is seeking a Web Content Publisher who loves to write for the web, understands web information architecture principles, and enjoys thinking about creative ways to present information visually to users. The person in this role will work closely with Development, Test, Program Management, and UX Design partners to document CRM features and functionality targeting the end-user audience, including UI text. This person will also play a lead role in working closely with key stakeholders to help redesign the customer-facing web portal where all of the end user content is surfaced. This is a great opportunity as we are in the midst of a complete site redesign, to greatly “improve the information experience” for our users, through more innovative content and community solutions.

The person in this role will be part of an “end user-focused” team responsible for creating a wide variety of content types, including core Help topics, articles, overviews, troubleshooters, videos, and guides. We are looking for an accomplished and versatile web content publisher with strong customer focus, passion for the web, and strong cross-team collaboration skills. This is a great opportunity for someone who loves managing people, is passionate about end users, quality-focused, and loves creating create content assets and building great user experiences via the web.

The ideal candidate understands content creation and web publishing best practices, information architecture principles, and web usability methodologies. As part of our goal to build out a great “web self serve” model through our public-facing web site, experience working closely with support and online community experts is also desirable. The person in this role must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, have solid project management skills, and have a drive-for-results approach to their work.

This team authors all core content using DxStudio, so familiarity with this CMS is also ideal. Experience with online services is a plus, given CRM’s online offering. Last, this person needs to be adept at solving complex problems, given our matrix of having both an on-premise and an online offering, different versions of the CRM client, soon-to-be cross-browser support, a mobile offering, a rapid release cadence, and more.

Key areas of responsibility include:
Documenting core features and functionality of CRM based on assigned areas, and also writing the UI text for those feature areas.
Building out various content types, including how-to articles, videos, conceptual overview information, and more.
Work closely with the team manager, the production engineer, and UX partners to build out a great web experience for end users.
Work closely with the product team on UA feature work where FTE developers are required to implement enhancements to the web site.
Help to drive the web site redesign work forward, including ongoing information architecture work, and identifying new and different ways of presenting information to users.

Qualifications:
5+ years of web content publishing/technical writing experience, with demonstrable knowledge and successful application of web-writing best practices.
Experience writing for the web-having experience designing or redesigning a web site is a plus.
Search engine optimization (SEO) experience.
SharePoint and HTML knowledge are desirable, but not a firm requirement.
Strong familiarity with DxStudio or experience working with similar content management systems.
Experience developing and maintaining content infrastructure that is global-ready and localizable.
Be a self-starter with excellent problem solving skills and the ability to execute despite ambiguity.
Strong oral and written communication skills, along with highly-effective team building and cross-team collaboration skills.
Working knowledge of Dynamics CRM including core capabilities a plus.
High energy, a positive attitude, a strong drive for results, and a sense of humor a double plus.
Understanding of information architecture and Microsoft Design Principles a triple plus.
A portfolio of work samples demonstrating capabilities - ideally with web and customer statistics to show impact - will be requested.
